What You Put In, Is What You Get Out

2 Apr

So, how many times have we been told that water is good for us??  Well, despite what you may already know: water hydrates you, gives you energy, helps maintain weight, aids in digestion, or can help one loose weight, etc; drinking water exponentially helps your hair.  Since each hair strand is made up of 1/4 of water, replenishing your strands is essential in healthy hair care.

Drinking adequate amounts of water will result in less frizz, more manageability, and more moisture with your hair. There are other helpful measures to take to maintain healthy hair care but, drinking a sufficient amount of water everyday is probably the most inexpensive and helpful of them all.

I’m sure many of us would say, “I DO drink water” or “I drink water every day”. However, the question is; are you getting enough water?

Many of us think the occasional water bottle or two a day is sufficient but, this is starkly NOT the case. Although, the amount of water intake one needs can vary person to person given climate, exercise, and body weight; to name a few, the average person is often dehydrated. When I started drinking a gallon of water a day about three years ago, my hair went into shock! I didn’t shed as much hair, I could style more easily, & I didn’t have as much dandruff build up.

Now the on the other side of the coin, my biggest initial adjustment to drinking that much water a day were my constant trips to the bathroom! Lol, I just couldn’t stop but, after about 3-4 weeks my body adjusted and the amount of trips to the powder room lessened. ;-)

Below is a helpful link I have used to determine my water intake needs. It’s cool because, it takes you through a quick 10 question quiz to tell you how much water YOU need specifically.  I was told I need 4.5 liters a day which, is about 1.5 gallons of water a day.  The amount increase makes sense because, I have become more physically active and I live in a very dry climate. You ladies try my suggestion for a week and tell me any differences you see.  Happy drinking!

Five Ways to Drink More Water

26 Jan

Via Sporty Afros

We have all heard it, 60% of the body is composed of water. But isn’t it hard to drink the recommended 64ounces of water a day? I can’t lie, I struggle with it but I’m working on it. So here are a few tips on how to drink more water.

Carry it with you!- It seems soda, coffee and energy drinks are all around. If you always keep a bottle water on you then you can sip it  throughout the day. Try putting water in one of these cute bottles.

Tea-This is a quick way to drink water without the added calories. Try having hot tea in the morning and cold tea during lunch. With a variety of flavors such as Ginger and lemon berry, you’ll never get  tired of drinking tea!

Random Note: Did you know there is Ayurvedic tea?! WHITE AYURVEDIC CHAI TEA. Ayurvedic items are everywhere!

Sparking Water- Get all the benefits of being calorie free but satisfies your fizz craving. Here are a few brands of sparking waters I like: San Pellegrino, Perrier, Trader’s Joe and Wholefoods. I love adding zest to sparking water with a little lemon and lime juice.

Frozen Fruit – Instead of flavoring your water with lemon, try new adding fruits and veggies such as: limes, raspberries, orange, cucumber or coconut. Take it a further step  by adding few frozen pieces of fruit into your water, tea or sparking water. It will make your plain jane glass of water look pretty and its really refreshing.

Eat It! -Fruits and vegetables contain large quantities of water in proportion to their weight. When these foods are eaten, the water can be absorbed by the body. Here are a few suggestions:  watermelon, broccoli, cabbage, grapefruit, tomatoes and cucumbers. All of these fruits are at least 90% water.

Weigh In For Jan 6th. Did I Lose 2 Lbs?

6 Jan

It’s the moment of truth

Did I lose the 2lbs? Did I is the question.

My original post made on Dec 29th was to lose 2lbs by Jan 6th.

During this time i tried my best to stick to my diet but i will not lie to you,
I fell off in the last 2 weeks but what is my motto? EARN WHAT YOU EAT! Along with some healthy stuff, i managed to consume some bad stuff too

  • Banana Fosters Waffle
  • Ice Cream
  • Oreo Cookies
  • Oatmeal Cookies and Brownie Cookies
  • Manchu’s Chicken and a 500 calorie Cinabun

Can you say lack of self control? IT’S THAT DAMN SUGAR! I GOTTA HAVE IT! It’s supposed to be in moderation. See, no i am not perfect, i struggle just like everyone else.

I still had veggies and meats, protein shakes, TONS of water in all that but i had my fair share of falling off

But did i lose it?

Dec 29th i was 168 lbs.

Today, on Jan 6th, I am 165.4 lbs!

So despite the crazy eating, yes, i did lose the a little over 2lbs! Just imagine what i would weigh if i would have stuck completely to it -____-
