How long have you been natural and when did you BC?

I’ve almost always been natural. But I confess when I was younger I tried to hide my hair volume.. So I started being natural, 100% natural, two years ago.

What are your staple products and hairstyles?

I don’t use many products because my hair seems to react poorly to them. This is why I only use olive oil or argan oil when I judge it’s necessary. I do a shea butter mask ( DOP )

What is your regimen?

After my shampoo, I untangle my hair with a comb. Then I wet it again to redefine my curls then I dry my hair with a hair dryer. That’s all !

What are your natural hair goals?

My first goal is to take care of my curls. 3 year ago, I lost the 4/5 of my hair because I was sick… I thought I would never get my fierce hair back.

Moreover, I always wanted to have long hair since I’m was child. I never had long hair. This is my second goal. Even If I fall in love with nappy atitude. I wish to have longer hair.

How do you keep your hair intact overnight?

It depends. When my hair was shorter I didn’t. Once it got longer, I started sleeping with a large elastic band and on my estomac. I swear lool

How do you maintain length?

I often cut my hair: 1 or 2 cm is enough. Most of the people know to do this but not a lot do it!! Girls trust me. Cut your hair. Don’t use a lot of products. Let your hair live, breathe and help them to regenerate itself..

Name 1 reason you went natural and why you love being natural.

Loosing my hair pushed me to be natural. Now I love to be natural because I regained my curls of my childhood. Everyday I have at least 20 compliments from my friends, my prof at school, at work, in the street; EVERYWHERE I go people love my hair. Young & old. Men or women & whatever the race… I understand that my hair is different and I love to be different I don’t like when we all look like each other… it’s boring lol.

I was inspired to write this post based on certain makeup faux pas I made in the past. For instance, I used to think that mascara made my lashes look too fake, so refused to wear it on the average day. I would leave my house wearing peach colored eyeshadow (or whatever color I pleased)….with undefined, bare, eyeshadow-powder-dusted lashes*gasp*…and mascara was reserved mostly for special occasions (cue jeers from the audience). Now I look back and think, “what kind of silliness was that!?” o_0…Lol

So I’m writing this post in hopes that makeup newbies (or people who just don’t know better) will take a cue from some of my past missteps and NOT follow suit. HERE ARE 3 MAKEUP BLUNDERS TO AVOID……

Feel free to watch the video version…or continue reading below:

3 MISTAKES TO AVOID:

* The photos in this post are clearly NOT the mistakes (in case that wasn’t obvious…lol).

1. Wearing Eyeshadow Without Mascara!

If you’re going to wear eyeshadow, you MUST wear mascara….especially if you’re going to be wearing a bright colored or frosty shadow! There’s nothing wrong with wearing neon yellow, hot pink or fluorescent beige (Precious reference ), but you best believe the look will quickly go wrong if you fail to define and balance it out with mascara. If you don’t, it may leave you looking clownish.

Even if your eyeshadow is a neutral color like brown or cream or something that matches your skin tone, it’s still necessary to DEFINE your eyes with mascara. Not doing so when wearing these shades may leave you with a washed out appearance.

p.s. There are other ways to define, such as using an eyeliner or placing a darker color in the crease…but none of that matters if you don’t frame your eyes with mascara!

2. Wearing a Dramatic/Smokey Eye Without Foundation!

It is imperative to wear foundation when rocking a dramatic or smokey eye look. If your eyes are super dramatic, dark, or colorful and your face is bare….your makeup looksincomplete. The exception is if you have super flawless skin that doesn’t require any touch-ups whatsoever…but most of us don’t. So for the general population, it’s important to wear some kind of base to even out your complexion, so your dramatic eye makeup can fairly stand out (in a good way)!

3. Wearing a Bold/Bright Colored Lipstick Without Foundation!

In the same vein, if you are going to wow the crowd with a bold or bright colored lipsticksuch as a chocolate brown or fiery hot red or fuschia, you must wear foundation! Or, as I stated before, some kind of base to create flawless-looking skin (some of us may only need a bit of concealer and some powder to do the trick).

Ever wonder why you look like your crazy old grand aunt when you try on certain bold colors that others seem to be able to rock with no problem? One reason may be that you’re not wearing the right shade…but chances are it’s because it’s out of CONTEXT! Usually when you go browsing the cosmetics counters, you don’t go in with full-on, glammed out makeup….so it looks odd to just see this random bold color out of nowhere, while everything else on your face is…well, plain or unfinished. I can’t stress enough how much starting out with a clean, polished canvas can do to improve your OVERALL makeup look!

BONUS: Wearing a Bold or Bright Colored Lipstick With Nothing on the Eyes!

I had to add this in, because in addition to wearing foundation while rockin’ bold lips, it’s a necessity for the eyes to be well-defined! It’s all about BALANCE! It’s okay to allow your lips to shine and be the one making a bold statement, but you can’t fully neglect the eyes. The eyes don’t necessarily need to have shadow, but they absolutely need to be lined andfurther defined with a couple good coats of mascara (or if you dare, some faux lashes)! Take a cue from Miss Keri Washington in the photo above

All-in-all my friends, don’t be afraid to go bold or have fun with makeup, just remember to keep these important guidelines in mind! STAY GORG! <3

xoxo,

It seems like every week, another celebrity is coming out with a new perfume, clothing line, shoe line or anything else they can put their name on. As a fashion lover, I’m on the fence about whether I love this or not. I appreciate items from “real designers”, so things that celebrities “design” isn’t necessarily of high priority on my shopping list. However, there are some that put out really good products, whether they actually put any work into it is debatable. There are some that I hear they are putting out a perfume, shoe, or clothing line and I think “Child please, you slapped your name on that.” Others though, I at least try to give them a chance. Jessica Simpson, for example, is one of those that I actually gave her a shot. I love her shoe collection more than her singing. I could do without hearing her belt out another note, but I always check out her new shoes. Beyonce, on the other hand, I could listen to her music over and over, but that clothing line? I’ll pass. Dereon is just not my cup of fashion tea and I would rather suffer from thirst.

There are many more singers/athletes/actors that have taken a dive into the fashion world. I decided to list a few that are starting new ventures this year or are expanding on their existing brand.

Radio personality and talk show host Wendy Williams revealed last week that for the past year she has been working on an accessories line called Adorn by Wendy Williams with QVC. She revealed a few of the pieces from her jewelry collection on her talk show and had a full hour long spot on QVC to introduce her line to the world. She mentioned handbags and shoes, but only the jewelry is currently available on QVC.com. I like the pieces, but I don’t see anything about them that makes them stand out from the jewelry I buy for less than half the price at boutiques around town. I applaud her for taking such a huge leap and I am looking forward to seeing the shoes and handbags that she is working on.

Paw Print Hammered Ring $46 Two-Tone Necklace $64.50 Snake Scale Cuff $44.50

Halle Berry is one of the most beautiful women in the world, in my opinion. She’s an okay actress (let’s just be honest). She branched out into perfume recently and has had a lot of success with her different fragrances. My mom actually has one of them and it actually smells really good! She recently announced she is introducing a shoe line that she worked with German shoe retailer Deichmann Shoes to create. It’s not going to be sky high platforms like Jessica Simpson’s line though. Her line, 5th Avenue by Halle Berry, will consist of 40 pairs of limited edition, comfortable, affordable shoes for “every woman”.
The shoe styles will vary from wedges to gladiator sandals. The line will debut in March in Europe. However, no official date on a U.S. release has been announced. Even though Halle claims they will be affordable, Im sure her ‘affordable” is different from mine. I am still interested in seeing the entire line of her shoes.

Rapper turned reality tv star, T.I. recently held a fashion show for his men’s clothing line Akoo. I’ve been hearing about this line for a while; however I’m just now actually seeing the product. The name Akoo is actually an acronym for A King Of Oneself; which makes sense because T.I. has dubbed himself “The King”. After searching the site, I found that the prices range from mid-twenties for a skull cap to over four hundred for a jacket. I am not aware of what menswear usually costs, so I’m not one to judge whether this is truly affordable or not. The collection seems like it was taken directly from T.I.’s closet. It’s full of jackets, cardigans, sweatshirts, and t-shirts that I swear I’ve seen T.I. wear before. The clothing looks comfortable and is actually not a bad looking collection. I expect that a lot of his fans will add at least one of his t-shirts to their wardrobe.

By Courtney

Every few months, Target enlists a high end designer to create a line that will be exclusively sold at their stores and in the price bracket for their target market. In the past, designers such as Rodarte, Zac Posen, and most recently (and some may say most infamously) Missoni. The latest designer to join this group is Jason Wu. You may not know his name, but you definitely have seen his work. He is the man responsible for designing First Lady Michelle Obama’s Inaugural Ball gown in 2008.

Fast forward four years and Jason Wu is one of the top designers in the industry and his designs can be seen on many of Hollywood’s hottest entertainers. Now, his designs are available for those fashionistas that don’t have the ability to buy his higher end products; which could cost almost four times as much (or more) than what will be offered in a limited edition standalone collection at Target.

The Jason Wu for Target collection may have a lower price tag but it has the same style aesthetic as his higher priced label. His fun, flirty and ladylike style is still apparent in the Target collection. The collection is full of floral and striped knee-length skirts and lightweight fabric shirts that would make great additions to your spring wardrobe. There are also clutches, handbags and accessories available to complete your look. The prices for the collection range from $20-$60, so in addition to being appealing, they’re affordable. Appealing AND affordable? I’m sold!

The Jason Wu for Target collection hits stores and Target.com for a limited time starting February 5, 2012. If the reaction to his line is anything like the Missoni chaos (out of stock merchandise within a couple hours, cancelled online orders, etc.) a few months ago, I would suggest getting there early to check it out! Below are just five of the looks that will be available.

How long have you been natural and when did you BC?

I have been natural for 3 years now, w00t w00t! I did the BC on Inauguration Night, January 20th 2009 in my bathroom. My younger sister helped me to cut the relaxed ends out of my hair.

What are your staple products and hairstyles?

Since I have Sisterlocks, I don’t use too many products. Honestly, all I really use are the Sisterlocks’ “Getting Started” Shampoo and an Anti-Itch mix that I created, which contains Witch Hazel and Rosemary Oil. However, when I was a loose natural I LOVED Oyin Handmade and Aubrey Organics products! I still highly recommend them to anyone and I use them on my client’s hair.

My favorite hairstyles to do with my Sisterlocks are Updos or Curly Sets. I really like updos because they get all of my Sisterlocks out of my face and look chic. And I love Curly Sets because they last a good 2-3 weeks with my Sisterlocks and all I use to set them with is water.

What is your regimen?

My regimen is really simple. I get my Sisterlocks retightened by my Sisterlock Consultant every 5 weeks and in between retightenings, I normally shampoo my hair twice. On a daily basis, I try to spray my scalp with my Anti-Itch mix to help alleviate any itching and keep my scalp clean.

What are your natural hair goals?

When I first went natural, my goal was to grow my loose natural hair for at least 5 years and then get Locs, but clearly that was a lost cause, LOL. I loc’d my hair within 22 months of going natural. Now my hair goals are to grow my Sisterlocks to great lengths and eventually learn to retighten them myself. I also look forward to trying more styles because I have been pretty hesitate to do so while my Sisterlocks are still settling.

How do you keep your hair intact overnight?

I normally wear a Loc Soc, Dreadsock, or Satin Bonnet to bed, depending on how my Sisterlocks are styled. But no matter what, I always try to keep them my hair proetected at night because cotton sheets/pillowcases can be really drying.

How do you maintain length?

With Sisterlocks, or any Loc’d style, its fairly easy to retain length because the hair naturally intertwines and encapsulates. I do my part by not pulling off any of the buds that form on the ends of my Sisterlocks. The buds help to secure and keep the very ends of the locs protected so they don’t thin.

Name 1 reason you went natural and why you love being natural.

I went natural because I no longer wanted to subject myself to the harmful chemicals in relaxers and I love being natural because its such an empowering and carefree lifestyle.

Beauty is a pastime most women share, but sometimes it can be fatally dangerous if we are not safe. We are sad to report that Atasha Graham, a 34-year-old Jamaican-born housewife who lived in England, died after suffering a major allergic reaction triggered by glue from her hair extensions.

After a night out on the town with her boyfriend, Graham collapsed, stopped breathing and could not regain consciousness. She was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. Doctors surmised the hair glue or latex weave was the cause of her death after an autopsy revealed nothing was wrong with her organs and no toxins were present in her bloodstream.

Although this is the first time I’ve heard of this kind of tragedy, Home Office pathologist Doctor Michael Heath says death by hair extension occurs more than you think:

“I’ve seen cases where people using solvent to apply hair extensions has actually caused anaphylactic shock. There are about 10 to 20 deaths a year in this country, many more in America. I have seen four in the last three months.”

The reality of 10-20 deaths by hair glue or extensions a year is painfully frightening. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Graham family and hope that everyone out there continues to be safe when it comes to what goes in and out of the body. -Glamazon Krystal

This is HORRIBLE! No this isn’t a scare tactic because I, myself, use weaves as a protective style from time to time. I haven’t done it in a very long time but i do do it. Please make sure you know what your using ladies!
