The Female Version of High and TightLet’s be honest. All the ladies in the audience have had at least one day where exercise was just not going to happen (even though we all know we need it), because getting the hair back to cuteness was just too much to think about. Well, if you haven’t been there, I have. My fiance already knows that if I get my hair done on Thursday, I will not be going out into the Texas heat on Friday. So, that having been said, how do we get our fitness on without looking like “who dunnit”? There are a few different options that I have heard of and tried, but I’m still looking for the perfect technique, so I can’t wait to hear your ideas as well. Option #1 This is what I call the female version of the high and tight. Pull your hair up into a high ponytail and wrap your edges tight with cotton bandana or sweatband. If your hair is long enough, I would also recommend wrapping the ends into a bun around your ponytail to keep your ends from getting wet on your neck. The tricky part with this one is that ideally you would like to keep your edges wrapped until they’re dry. if you sweat like However, if you sweat like I do, your bandana is completely soaked by the time you’re done working out. In that case you’ll need to trade out your wrap until you’re all dry. Smooth a moisturizer on your edges and through your ponytail paying extra attention to your ends, and by the time you’re done showering you should be ready to style. Option #2 If you have shorter straightened hair a ponytail may not be an option. In this case, if you’re rocking a straight style you’re going to want to wrap your hair and cover your head completely with a cotton scarf. If you’re trying to hold on to your curls, go through and pin each one into place with a bobby pin and, again, wrap your entire head with a cotton scarf. Once you’re done with your workout, remove your scarf and spray your style with a light moisturizer like Olive Oil Nourishing Sheen Spray. Once you’re done with your shower, if your hair isn’t dry yet, blast it for a few minutes with a cool hair dryer (you don’t want to start sweating again!), and then take it down and style when you’re all dry. Option #3 For my natural ladies, you can get away with a few more washes per week, but maintaining the moisture in your tresses is so important. While it’s probably not a great idea to wash your hair every day, if you can time your hardest hitting workouts to every other day, then you’ll be able to rinse your hair to keep the salt build up on your roots to a minimum. After each of these rinses, be sure to pull a rich and light leave-in conditioner from root to tip before styling. To dry, either air dry or use a cool hair dryer with a diffuser. Bonus Option For everyone, a good alternative to make you feel fresher when you just can’t wash it, try dry shampoo. Unfortunately, I haven’t tried this yet, so I don’t have any good recommendations, but I have tried the baby powder DIY trick. In my experience, that isn’t the way to go.
