If you are in the NY area this week a must see event is Tim Okamura’s ”Bronx • Brooklyn • Queens”, solo painting exhibition opening reception this Thursday, September 8th from 6-8pm, held at the Lyons Wier Gallery in New York. Originally from Edmonton, AB Canada now residing in Brooklyn, NY Okamura is a gifted contemporary painter whose portraits seem to always capture the inner essence and remarkable realistic embodiment of all his subjects coupled with his signature graffiti-esque stamp. A recipient of the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Painting, his work has not only been exhibited in London’s prestigious National Portrait Gallery but featured in several major motion pictures as well in which his soul stimulating pieces have taken notice of some star celeb collectors such as musician Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots, Anabella Sciorra, Uma Thurman, Ethan Hawke and Director Ben Younger. In 2006 Okamura was bestowed a highly regarded mention as one of several artist to be shortlisted for a proposed portrait of the Queen Elizabeth of England.
Okamura is currently teaching painting and drawing at Parsons School of Design and the City College of New York in Harlem. If you cannot attend the opening reception this Thursday you will still have plenty of time to see this amazing and inspiring exhibit which runs till October 8th.
