Hello Lizzia,

Im a fan on facebook who is currently transitioning form perm to natural hair - can you suggest a shampoo and conditioner that would be helpful? Ive been told that certain ingredients like sulfate and alchol based conditioners dry your hair.

Sincerely,

A natural newbie…. that needs help (LOL)!

First of all i would like to say thank you so much for being a fan and subscribing to the fan page! I appreciate all my fans!

As far as your question is concerned, sulfates and alchol based conditioners do dry your hair out but i believe in everything in moderation. When I 1st started my hair journey, i was gung ho about all the “bad” stuff like parabens, sulfates, and silicone.

I was a complete CG. I refused to use it and my hair flourished. One thing that i had been using was Hello Hydration by Herbal Essences and it made my hair so soft. One day i picked up the bottle and was heart broken to find that it had cones in it.

At that point i realized that i didn’t have to totally stray away from everything but to use it in moderation. So i said all of that to say that you don’t have to completely stay away from everything, just learn what your hair likes and doesn’t like and do it all in moderation. For example, if your leave-in has cones, don’t cowash with a conditioner with cones in it. If your deep conditioner has cones, dont follow it up with products that contain parabens and cones as well.

On to the conditioner recommendations:

Cowashing:V05 Moisture Milks; Suave Coconut Conditioner

Leave-ins:Yes to Carrots (also a great deep conditioner );Aussie Moist; Hello Hydration ; Dove Moisture Intensive Repair

Shampoos:Suave Clarifiying Shampoo; Oyin Handmade Shampoo Bar

Also note that i only shampoo my hair once a month because i cowash for the most part. I use the Suave Clarifiying Shampoo ONLY once month because if it is used to often, it will strip your hair bone dry.

I like Oyin’s shampoo bar but i wish it came in liquid form but overall its great for people who do not what to sacrifice shampooing their hair but don’t want it to be dry either!

Can you ladies recommend any other shampoos and conditioners?
