Meet Chisellecouture. She shares her story

How long have you been natural and when did you BC?

I’ve been natural now for 10 months, and i transitioned for 18 months. I did my BC Feb 14, 2009. Yes, my hair was my valentine! LOL

What are your staple products and hairstyles?

Products i can’t live without are Creme of Nature Detangling and Conditioning Shampoo, Cantu Leave In, Whipped Shea Butter, Unrefined Coconut Oil, and V05 Moisture Milks Conditioner. Recently I discovered a hairstyle, i simply do medium/large sized twist and pin them up. The result is a super chic twisted updo. Along with that style i love 2 strand flat-twist outs, and wash & gos.

What are your natural hair goals?

My natural hair goal, is to retain length, and keeping my hair healthy. I would also like to reach Mid Back Length unstretched.

How do you keep your hair intact overnight?

If my hair is out in a wash & go style, i throw it into a puff. If i have twist, i oil my scalp, moisturize my hair with Whipped Shea Butter, and seal with Unrefined Coconut Oil. I never sleep without my satin scarf.

How do you maintain length?

Sleeping with a satin scarf helps to prevent split-ends by minimizing the friction between your head and the cotton pillows. I’ve finally found my moisture/protein balance. I moisturize and seal daily. I haven’t flatironed or blowdried since Spring 09, so that definitely helps with retention. I have yet to spot a split-end since I’ve been natural!

Name 1 reason you went natural and why you love being natural.

Curiosity didn’t kill the cat this time! Limp relaxed hair definitely isn’t my thing. I love BIG hair and experimenting with different styles. Being natural allows me to explore so many hairstyles, techniques, and products. I have so many options now!
