How long have you been natural and when did you BC?
After some research on relaxers and the alopecia I was experiencing, coupled with the fact that I was pregnant, I started transitioning in December of 2005. I spent the next year and a half trimming relaxed hair.
What are your staple products and hairstyles?
Staple products are shea butter, coconut oil, aloe vera juice, Dr. Bronner’s(diluted), and my homemade shampoo bar. I mainly wear my hair in twistouts that I either pull back into a low puff, or clip. If I don’t twist my hair, I dampen it and pull it back into a puff.
What are your natural hair goals?
I would like to be BSL(stretched) by the end of 2010. I have been trying for a couple of years, but consistent protective styling somehow always seemed to take a backseat.
How do you keep your hair intact overnight?
Right now, I put my hair in about 7 twists and put on a bonnet. Sometimes if I want to set the twists, I will dampen my hair with aloe vera juice/water and add melted shea butter. I undo the twist every morning and style unless I will be home all day.
How do you maintain length?
I have been able to maintain at APL(stretched) by trying to keep my hair in a bonnet at night(sometimes I forget), and keeping my ends from touching my clothes or chair by putting my hair in a clip during the day. If I am home I keep it in twists or wrapped in a scarf or bonnet.
Name 1 reason you went natural and why you love being natural.
I went natural to hide the fact that my hair was thinning out. I love being natural, because I like my hair, the kinks and curls. After 5 years I still love it natural.
