How long have you been natural and when did you BC?
I have been natural for almost two years. I BC’d in May of 2008.
What are your staple products and hairstyles?
From day one I’ve used Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner almost exclusively. It holds my curl without being crunchy, and doesn’t leave it limp and weighed down. Nothing else that I’ve tried comes close. I use Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Smoothie as a conditioner and Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding when I do my twists. Hair style wise, I am a wash and go type of girl, though since my hair has gotten so long in this past year, I’ve learned to do flat twists. In the winter I do twists that last about a week before I have to do them again. I was super excited to now be able to do a large puff on the top of my head. I keep it simple, because I am still learning how to style my hair.
What are your natural hair goals?
Just to keep learning to care of it. As my hair gets longer, what I do to it changes so every few months I try something new. I’m not hung up on length or anything like that. I already know my hair can grow and I also know that I cannot deal with super long hair because it would to be too much for me.
How do you keep your hair intact overnight?
I’m still working on that! I’ve had some success in keeping my wash n gos going by putting my hair in a loose ponytail at night and covering it with a silk scarf. In the morning my curls are flat, but the steam from the shower perks them right up again. My hair gets bigger as the week goes on, but that just makes it look better.
How do you maintain length?
Covering my hair at night to prevent breakage. I get a trim every six months or so.
Name 1 reason you went natural and why you love being natural.
I went natural because I was curious about it. I love it now because I’ve taught myself so much about taking care of my hair. It’s gorgeous and healthy and I love its versatility.
