Seitan Tacos Recipe

         By Sporty Afros
I’m always looking for quick, healthy meals to make. Since I’ve been focusing on getting more protein, a recipe with Seitan (a vegetarian meat substitute made from wheat protein, it’s pronounced say – tan) was an obvious choice.  Despite what people think and the myths they perpetuate it’s pretty easy to eat a high protein diet as a vegetarian or vegan. Check out our previous post about non-meat based proteins. Seitan has 24 grams of protein per 4 oz serving. Can’t beat that!
Anyhoo, I didn’t follow a specific recipe for my tacos, I just used what I had at the house. Seitan Tacos Ingredients
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1/2 bell pepper
  • 1/2 ancho pepper
  • 1/2 jalapeno
  • 1/2 cup Salsa
  • 1 package Seitan
  • whole wheat tortillas
  • Avocado *optional
  • Tomato *optional (I forgot to add tomatoes in the final pic!)
Directions: I cut my veggies into strips, took my Seitan out of the package and cut it into bite sized strips. Then I added 1 tsp of olive oil to a pan over medium heat, my veggies, setian and a little salsa and I cooked everything until my veggies were tender. And…that’s it! Pretty simple huh? I ate my tacos with a little avocado, but you can dress them up however you like. I kept it simple.
